Dry Cough

This dry cough's bothering me since Wednesday last week. I thought I was getting better two days after its onset so I went out on weekends to drink beer with friends. Sunday came and the cough got worse. So I called my doctor friend (a cardiologist at St. Luke's) and asked him what's good for my cough. He said Sinecod Forte, 120 mL, one tablespoon four times a day. I immediately bought the cough syrup and have been taking it religiously as prescribed. But until now, I'm still suffering from the same nasty dry cough. I never thought a cough could be this menacing. No phlegm. Just dry, painful, itchy cough. I don't want this to linger for another week. Do you know of any effective over-the-counter cough medication?

I had a 6 month cough like that... tried everything... nothing that the doctor prescribed seemed to work... when I went home to good old Davao city where the air is still fresh, the cough totally disappeared...

Maybe it was also because I wasn't in a "toxic" work environment anymore. And when I mean toxic I mean stressfull :D

my doctor friend said that a cold/cough should disappear after 3 days if it's viral, about a week if it's bacterial. so you should go to a doctor to have it checked again, you may need antibiotics if its bacterial in nature. :-)

Oh man, sorry to hear that. Our "session" last week only made it worse.

Bro, have you tried natural remedies like herbs and stuff? Might work...

Naku, paano yan, I was planning on another session for us next week...

Hoop. I wish I can do the same thing no and go home to my dear Davao. Hay.

Jher, thanks for the info. I'm seeing a doctor tomorrow. I cough harder and more often this time. I'm starting to get worried.

Snglguy, I'm afraid our session last Sat made it worse. But I have no regrets. Twas my decision. I just hope this will be gone this week. Meantime, I'd say no to beer. Hehe.

Dry coughs are generally an indicative of some sort of irritation. I would say inhale steam morning evening.I can explain this if you don't already know what I mean.

Also are you allergic to some thing. Then too you can get a dry cough. I would recommend an anti-antihistamine but would hope that you consult a doctor and get the proper dose.

Other than that lots of water, Vit C( lime, lemons) should help.

Hope you get better soon.

Oh and look out for sudden production of phlegm, fever, head aches and body aches. Any of the above are indicative of developing infection. Could be viral or bacterial. You will need appropriate medication and hence a consultation.

EU, hey doc, thanks a lot. :) I think I'm developing a tonsillitis. I can feel it now.

Rohit, I promise I won't drink beer for months. Unless of course, there's a need to celebrate. Oh yeah, when my cough's gone, I'll celebrate....

I hate cough because when it catches me, it would go on from weeks to months and it's irritating as nobody's business. See a doctor fast and get on that antibiotics!

Then chew on some cough- suppressant lozenges so it won't bother you at work.

Whenever I qam in the same situation and I need to do away with it pronto, I hie off to buy Ambroxol tablets and take it 3X a day and in most instances, I get miracle results, like the cough's gone in just a day.

Try also Robitussin--its pretty effective.

Rey, this is my first time to have a cough that lasts for more than a week. Usually it goes away in less than 5 days. But I got antibiotics already. I'm feeling better now. Salamat.

Gypsy, thanks.

Major Tom, the doctor gave me Ambroxol. It seems effective though. Thanks.

My children had it too .. most of them. Tagal din nilang maysakit. For a while, I was the only one not barking. I credit my resistance to grapefruit juice, but nobody seems to believe me.

Anyway ... be well!!

i used to work as a medrep for Novartis, the pharmaceutical company of sinecod. it does help relieve dry cough but side effect naman niya is to cough out more... i was prescribed this too wheni had the same problem, i asked for another meds bec of the non-stop coughing. i think they gave me robitussin instead.

Annamanila, uso yata ang ubo these days ah. Matikman nga din ang grapefruit juice. Pwede bang ihalo sa beer yan? Haha.

Eiram, that's what happened to me. So Sinecod is not effective for me. I'm taking Ambroxol now and I'm 95% well already.
